Picks for Super Bowl XLIV

As a fan this is a very difficult game for me. I am a huge Peyton Manning fan, as some may know I am a University of Tennessee fan, and Peyton is the greatest Volunteer of all time. His younger brother Eli is the quarterback of the my favorite NFL team, the New York Giants. I have been on the front line of the Peyton Manning/Tom Brady debate, and a Colt win would cement Manning as the greatest of the generation. On the other side, a victory for New Orleans would mean so much for a city that deserves a celebration. The city of New Orleans has had my support since the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. As an executive producer of the documentary Trouble the Water, I have felt close to this city and would love to see the NO get a break. A scenario where Peyton Manning plays incredibly and the Saints pull out a victory, would be fine by me.

Indianapolis Colts vs New Orleans Saints (Colts by 5, total 57, opened 3.5 and 56)
Getting down to business, this selection has also been very tough because I am going to be on the favorite and what seems to be the popular choice. I like to go against the public, but when breaking down this game I have to go with the team I think will win. The Colts -5, have the better quarterback, the better defense and I think they will run the ball and control the clock. I think the Colts running game, which hasn’t been a big factor all season will surprise the Saints defense, who have allowed 4.6 yards per carry. On the other side of the ball, I expect Drew Brees to have a slow start and to have some Super Bowl jitters. I really like the Colts run defense and that the Saints inability to run will only put more pressure on Brees. As for the total, I am going to go with the Under 57, this is a tough one to take, I think a lot of the public will be on the over. Who wants to watch a Super Bowl with two explosive offenses and be upset when they score? I think the Colts will work the play clock and the Colts defense is fast and physical. I especially like the under in the 1st half, but can see the Saints scoring some points late.

Props to come…
