Recently I had the opportunity to interview Oakland Athletics pitcher Grant Balfour before they were set to take on the New York Mets at CitiField. Grant is one of 6 current active Major League baseball players from Australia. June was a good month for Australians in MLB. Grant has been nearly flawless and picked up a save against the Mets the night before the interview. Luke Hughes is playing nearly everyday at first base for the Minnesota Twins, replacing the injured Justin Morneau. Trent Oeltjen got called up from the minors by the Los Angeles Dodgers and rewarded them with a home run and 4 total hits in yesterdays 15-0 victory over Hughes’ Twins team. Josh Spence made his major league debut for the San Diego Padres and has retired all 10 batters he has faced. He has struck out of 5 of them.
